The Issue: The Govt of India has strong restrictions on foreign contributions to NGOs in India. This has resulted in high deaths particularly during COVID. And 100s of thousands of livelihoods and futures lost at an exponential rate.
NGOs For India is a collaborative task force to make it easier for any charitable effort to reach the poor with the greatest of ease, and the least expense. Members of this group include non-profit organizations, policy think tanks, NGOs, associations, farmer organizations, industry CSR groups, and elected officials.
Call to Action: Key efforts include eliminating policy execution barriers in benefits reaching the poor and affected. Representatives of the Government of India, state & local governments are most welcome. Since most of our donor base is in the United States, engaging with key international agencies is also critical in ensuring we save lives and livelihoods in India.
The Goal
- Fast-track approvals of Indian NGO FCRA applications, or reject (and provide hearing). If not possible, repeal the Govt of India FCRA Amendment Act, 2020 – and save valuable time and resources of NGOs.
- Minimum taxes and regulations for the underserved nano businesses to serve as a quasi stimulus.
- Past COVID related initiatives included zero tax/cess/duties on essential items like oxygen, vaccines and med supplies for 3 months.
